Getting started
What is a DIY garage?
You rent a professional bay — with a lift, tools, and space — and do the work on your own car yourself. No shop labor rates, no waiting for a mechanic. Coopers DIY Garage is in Toledo, Ohio at 320 W Alexis Rd, Toledo, OH 43612.
Do I need to bring my own tools?
No. Impact wrenches, sockets, jacks, jack stands, a strut compressor, fluid drain equipment, work lights, and more are included with every bay. Bring your own if you want a specific brand or a specialty tool you already own.
Do I need experience?
You should be comfortable doing the job you're booking for. Cooper and staff are around for advice and a quick safety walkthrough on your first visit, but they aren't certified mechanics and they don't do the work for you.
What kinds of vehicles can I work on?
Cars, trucks, and SUVs. If your vehicle is unusually large or heavy, call before you book so we can put you in the right bay.
Which bay should I pick?
QuickJack ($25 / hour) — Portable QuickJack lift setup for fast under-car access. Good for brakes, suspension, and quick under-car work.
Clear Floor ($20 / hour) — Open clear-floor workspace for jobs that do not need a lift. Cheapest option when you don't need to get under the car.
2-Post Lift ($45 / hour) — Full 2-post lift bay for heavier repair and inspection work. Best for exhaust, transmission, and longer jobs.
Pricing & payment
How much does it cost?
Hourly rates are $20 / hour (Clear Floor), $25 / hour (QuickJack), and $45 / hour (2-Post Lift). Day and 6-day weekly rates are on the pricing page. There's a 1-hour minimum; after that, time is billed in 30-minute increments.
What is the deposit?
Booking online takes a card deposit: 1 hour of your bay's rate, or 2 hours for a full 8-hour day. It isn't an extra fee — it comes off your bill when you settle up. Cancel 24+ hours before your start time and it's refunded automatically; inside 24 hours it's kept.
When do I pay the rest?
When you're finished, at the counter. The deposit is subtracted from the total.
What payment methods do you take?
Cards online for the deposit. At the counter we take cards; call ahead if you'd prefer to pay cash for the balance.
Do you offer weekly rates?
Yes — 6-day weekly blocks are available for longer projects, arranged by phone at (419) 704-2146 so the right bay stays reserved for you.
Booking
How do I book?
Online, in about two minutes: pick a bay and time, enter your details, pay the deposit, and you'll get a confirmation email with a calendar link and directions. Weekly rentals are booked by phone.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you can — weekends fill first. You can book up to 60 days out. Same-day slots are often available; check the live calendar.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes. Every confirmation email has a cancel link. Cancel 24+ hours ahead for a full deposit refund. To reschedule, cancel and rebook — or call (419) 704-2146 and we'll move it.
What are your hours?
Open Wednesday through Monday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Closed Tuesdays. All bookings must end by 6:00 PM, so the latest you can start a 1-hour booking is 5:00 PM.
What if my job runs long?
If the bay is free after your slot, you can extend in 30-minute increments — just tell whoever's at the counter. If the next slot is taken, we'll help you wrap up safely and you can rebook.
Can I leave my car overnight?
Not as part of a standard hourly or day booking — the bay must be clear by 6:00 PM. For multi-day projects, ask about the 6-day weekly rate, which keeps the bay yours.
At the shop
What do I need to bring?
A valid ID (the renter must be 18+), your parts, and closed-toe shoes. Sign the liability waiver online before you arrive and you'll walk straight to your bay.
What's the waiver?
A standard liability release every customer signs once before working in a bay. It's on the policies page and in your confirmation email — takes about two minutes on your phone.
Can I bring a friend to help?
Yes — up to 3 people per bay. Children must be with a parent or guardian.
Can I operate the lift myself?
After a short safety walkthrough on your first visit, yes. Staff will show you how the lift works and check your setup before the car goes up.
What if I get stuck on a step?
Ask. Cooper or staff are usually nearby and happy to point you in the right direction. We don't do the repair for you, but we'll help you think it through.
What about used oil and fluids?
Used oil and antifreeze go in the labeled drums — never down the drain. Bring your own containers if you want to take fluids with you.
Do I have to clean up?
Sweep the bay, return tools where you found them, and take your trash. Leaving a major mess can carry a $100 cleanup charge.
What if I break a tool?
If it breaks through normal use, just tell us — that's on us. Missing tools or damage from misuse may be charged case by case.
Rules
Any hard rules?
Closed-toe shoes at all times. Eye protection when grinding, cutting, or under a vehicle. No smoking, vaping, or open flames. No alcohol or marijuana on the property. No commercial repair work for paying customers without prior arrangement.
What happens if I no-show?
Your deposit is kept, and after 3 no-shows in 90 days online booking may be turned off for you. If you're running late, call (419) 704-2146 — if we haven't heard from you 30 minutes after your start time, the bay may be released.
